Foodies this is your joint because here comes that time of the year where you get to eat with lots of expectations.
What’s Winterlicious?
Winterlicious is a food festival that happens over the winter. This year, it is going to run from the 25th of January until the 7th of February. Major restaurants in the City of Toronto offer a three-course prix fixe lunch and dinner menu with literally over 150 fine diners participating. The prix fixe menu is discounted, usually within the range of $23 to $33 for lunch and $33 to 53 for dinner.
Furthermore, diversification is not limited to Canadian, French, Italian, Indian Fusion, Japanese, Thai, Portuguese, and Mediterranean cuisines. I ended up going with an Italian cuisine because who wouldn’t want to try Italiano?
ORETTA- Italian Cuisine
For a whopping sum of $28 excluding HST, I got
Appetizer: Beef Carpaccio Beef eye of round, Arugula, Preserved Mushrooms, Parmigiano, and Truffle Aioli. This was the best starter anyone could ask for. The meal had the right touch of mixed flavours, and the mushrooms were the highlight of the meal for me.
Entrée: Salmone pan-seared Salmon 5 oz, Zucchini Puree, Zucchini Stew. I don’t know about you but Zucchini is something I have never had before, and it did beat expectations. Also, every time I visit a restaurant, I either get cold Salmon or dry Salmon. I was surprised that this experience was different. I love how the Salmon was cooked perfectly, which is crusty on the skin but juicy flesh.
Dessert: Lemon Tart Shortbread Tart Shell, Lemon Custard, Blueberry Compote, Italian Meringue. This wasn’t my favourite dessert and that’s no fault of the restaurant. I have had the best of the best when it comes to desserts in Toronto, thereby any dessert I have, has to beat my expectations. Then again, lemon isn’t my thing.
Overall, this is not your average restaurant because it is quite sophisticated, just as I expected. Regarding who should go, it’s a business casual restaurant and I will be visiting again.
